Some things you can put on a sign, print in an advertisement, or add to a website. And then there are the things you live out loud.
At BioZyme®, we talk a lot about Care That Comes Full Circle. It is more than just our company motto. It is the belief that when we intentionally care for others, that care comes back around. It starts with the animals, extends to the people who care for them, and extends into the communities where we live and work. BioZyme President and CEO Lisa Norton compares it to a boomerang. When we take the best care of the animals that ultimately provide protein to feed the world, those protein sources come back and feed us so we can continue to care for the animals, land and people.
However, at BioZyme, we don’t just wear care that comes full circle on our shirt; we don't just talk about care. Our employees live it.
That is where our passion for others comes in.
BioZyme makes and sells animal health and nutrition products. That's what we do. But anyone who spends much time around our people knows that what we do is only part of the story. We are also animal owners, livestock producers, horse people, pet people, parents, grandparents, neighbors, friends and members of the agricultural and greater community.
We care because we have skin in the game. The animals we talk about aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet. They're the cows in the pasture, the goats in the barn, the show heifers getting ready for the ring, the horses standing at the gate waiting for you, or the dog stretched out on the kitchen floor.
They're our animals, too.
There is something different about recommending a product when you understand what it means to the person at the other end of that recommendation.
A livestock producer doesn't simply buy mineral from one recommendation. There is often a livelihood behind their decision – an investment of time and money. There may be years of genetics behind those animals. There are breeding decisions, calving seasons, lambing barns, show dates, sale days and plenty of sleepless nights.
The same is true for the person caring for a horse, dog, cat, show animal or backyard flock. When you care about an animal, you care about the details.
At BioZyme, understanding is part of who we are. After more than 70 years in animal health and nutrition, BioZyme has grown from its early roots into a company serving a wide variety of animals and the people who care for them.
That growth has never changed the most important part of the equation. Animals come first. People matter. And the relationship between the two matters just as much.
It is easy to say that a company cares about animals. Any company can make that claim. What makes a difference is the action behind the words.
At BioZyme, care shows up in the research behind our products. It shows up in the people who develop them, manufacture them, sell them and support the people using them. It shows up in our commitment to quality and consistency. And it shows up when our own employees reach into their feed rooms, tack rooms, barns and homes and use BioZyme products with their own animals. That matters because when you use something yourself, you look at it differently.
You don't want a product that merely sounds good in a brochure. You want something you can trust.
You want to know that what is in the package is what should be in the package. You want research behind the claims. You want consistency. And you want someone on the other end of the phone or across the show ring who is willing to help when you have a question.
BioZyme has made research a core value for more than seven decades, with more than 200 research projects and trials helping shape its animal health and nutrition solutions. That science matters because caring for animals means doing more than having good intentions. It means continually learning how to do better.
That is where science and passion meet. Out of more than 5,500 feed manufacturing facilities in the U.S., BioZyme’s facilities are in the less than 10 percent that have the Safe Feed, Safe Food certification. Furthermore, any time an FDA auditor has been in our facility in the past three years, we’ve passed inspections with 100% accuracy. Those inspections are unannounced. That is just one reflection of the passion that our employees have for doing the right things, every time, each day.
There is an old saying about talking the talk and walking the walk. At BioZyme, our employees can do both.
You cannot tell someone how much you care about their livestock if you don't understand what it means to care for an animal every single day.
Care isn't always glamorous. Sometimes it means getting out of bed before daylight. It is carrying feed through the rain. Sometimes it is checking water when it is 100 degrees outside. Sometimes it is standing in a barn wondering why an animal isn't eating like it should. Sometimes it is celebrating a new calf, lamb, kid or foal. Sometimes it is watching an old dog slow down and realizing just how many memories are tied to those four paws.
And that is why the people at BioZyme understand that care isn't something you turn on when you walk into the office and turn off when you go home.
“I can’t imagine raising my kids any other way than out in the barn or in the pasture with our livestock,” said Alan Lee, Vice President of Commercial Business and 14-year BioZyme employee. “My two children have learned responsibility, respect for animals and people and met some of their best friends and great mentors through the livestock business, and the BioZyme products have helped my kids succeed in and out of the show ring.”
Our employees aren’t just here for the paycheck. They are livestock producers – raising the next generation of kids and animals and they have passion for others. They bring their experience with them to work. They bring their questions, their successes, their frustrations and their love for animals. They understand that behind every customer is a story. They don't want to simply sell a product. We want to help them succeed.
One of the most important parts of care that comes full circle is that it isn't limited to the person buying the product. It includes the dealer who serves that customer.
“Recently, a dealer told me his goal was to ‘paint the orange VitaFerm orange.’ I thought that was amazing that he’s as passionate about our products as we are,” said Shelia Grobosky, Communications & Regional Marketing Manager and 8-year veteran of the BioZyme Marketing Team. “Another dealer told me how he visits with each new customer to discover their challenges and operation goals to ensure they get on the right program, not just sell them a mineral for the sake of selling products.”
In addition to the more than 2,000 dealers who are invested in our products, we work with distributors around the globe to ensure that our products and additives reach animals in every corner of the world. Further, we work with nutritionists and technical experts – many who are also livestock producers and animal enthusiasts – who educate and train the sales staffs and distributors about the products we make and market.
The BioZyme workplace culture is a place where people are given the opportunity to do more than succeed; they are given the chance to thrive. That same philosophy extends beyond the walls of the company through relationships with dealers, customers and the larger agricultural community. That doesn't happen because it is written in a handbook or on our website. It happens because our people have a passion for others. They choose to care.
Everyone involved in agriculture understands that we aren't just raising animals. We're raising people. That’s where the Sure Champ® product line for show livestock comes in handy.
A child who learns to feed a calf learns responsibility. A young person who gets up early to work with a show animal learns commitment. A youth who experiences the disappointment of a bad day in the show ring, then gets up the next morning and goes back to the barn, learns resilience. A family working together around a livestock project learns that success is rarely an individual effort.
That is one reason the show livestock community is so important to BioZyme and its brands. Sure Champ products are designed to support show livestock, but the impact goes beyond animal performance. The relationships built around those animals can help shape young people for years to come.
At BioZyme, our definition of animal care doesn't fit neatly into one species. We cover them all. Cattle. Sheep. Goats. Swine. Poultry. Horses. Dogs. Cats.
Different animals. Different nutritional needs. Different people. However, the same underlying connection exists = we have passion for others who care enough to do things right.
BioZyme's family of brands has grown to serve those different needs:
The products may be different, but the philosophy isn't. Care for the animal, and the animal will take care of the person. That’s the care that comes full circle.
The appealing thing about care is that it rarely stops where you expect it to. A producer cares for an animal. That animal contributes to a family, a farm or the food supply. The producer relies on dealers. The dealer relies on a company. The company relies on its employees. Employees take care of customers. Customers care for their animals. And the circle continues.
At BioZyme we hope that our customers, dealers, colleagues and potential customers see that care that comes full circle in every one of our employees. It is how we want to do business. And it is more than a motto; it is how many of us live our daily lives.
The goal is to make something that can help an animal, support the person caring for that animal, and ultimately make a positive difference in lives.
That's a pretty big circle, and we are proud to be part of it. At BioZyme, passion for others isn't something we put on a poster. It's something we try to put into everything we do.
It’s walking the walk. It's talking the talk. It’s care that comes full circle.
